The Combination of Verbs of Affect Expressing Anger and Admiration in French and Arabic (Functional Analysis)
La combinatoire des verbes d'émotion exprimant la colère et l'admiration en français et en arabe (analyse fonctionnelle)

The main objective of this study is to produce a functional integrative model for the analysis of the verbs of affect in French and Arabic: two verbs of emotion (to rage and its equivalent [ʕaɣḍaba] and two verbs of feeling (to admire and its equivalent [ʔaʕʒaba]). The analysis is at the semantic and syntactic level. The semantic dimensions conveyed by verbal collocations as to rage prodigiously in French, and [ʔaʕʒaba ʔiʕʒāban kabīran] (admire admiration big)2 in Arabic, are systematically linked to syntax (Hoey, 2005, Novakova and Tutin, 2009). Then, the work is at the syntactic and discursive level: the active, passive, and pronominal of V_affect are studied from the perspective of information dynamics within the sentence (Van Valin and LaPolla, 1997). The study is based on the French journalistic corpus EmoBase (Emolex 120M word project) and on the journalistic corpus ArabiCorpus (130M words).
Le principal enjeu de cette étude est d'aboutir à un modèle intégratif fonctionnel pour l'analyse des verbes d'affect en français et en arabe : deux verbes d'émotion (énerver et son équivalent [ʕaɣḍaba] et deux verbes de sentiment (admirer et son équivalent [ʔaʕʒaba]). L'analyse se situe au niveau sémantique et syntaxique. Les dimensions sémantiques véhiculées par les collocatifs verbaux comme énerver prodigieusement, en français, et [ʔaʕʒaba ʔiʕʒāban kabīran] (admirer admiration grand) 1 , en arabe, sont systématiquement reliées à la syntaxe (Hoey, 2005, Novakova et Tutin, 2009). Ensuite, le travail aborde le niveau syntaxique et discursif : les emplois actifs, passifs, et pronominaux des V_affect sont étudiés dans la perspective des dynamiques informationnelles au sein de la phrase (Van Valin et LaPolla, 1997). L'étude est fondée sur le corpus journalistique français EmoBase (projet Emolex 120 M de mots) et sur le corpus journalistique ArabiCorpus (130 M de mots).
