Modernité et post-modernité agri-alimentaires face à l’émergence d’une critique du contrat néolithique

Abstract : In order to build a global framework for analysing the contradictions that are expressed today at the interface between food and agriculture in urbanized societies, the paper sets out the stages of neo-lithisation, modernisation and then post-modern criticism of agri-food systems. Based on four research surveys conducted between 1994 and 2018 in Western France, it shows the complexity of the practices and representations that reflect these stages in contemporary facts: agro-industrialization of food vs. short supply chains, food at knock-down prices vs. the growth of organic farming, accessibility vs. the trivialization of agricultural landscapes, etc. Finally, it highlights the rapid emergence of new, always urban and sometimes radical, critiques that marginalize agriculture, both modern and post-modern, in the construction of a world that can be called post-neolithic, while having to cohabit with previous dynamics: deterritorialization of networked cities, commodification, rewilding, anti-speciesism...
