Tokenization of Fine Arts: Revolutionizing the Fine Arts Industry with Blockchain

Abstract

This chapter analyses the scope of possibility for tokenizing proof of ownership, evidence of valuation and quality of alternative investment classes that are tangible in nature. The focus of this treatise is specifically on on-boarding fine arts on the blockchain and the utilization of the blockchain to improve security associated with these assets. Through the assessment of Art Garde, a blockchain based cataloging tool and marketplace for fine arts, this chapter analyses a commercial use case for blockchain that merges the benefits of digitization of physical assets. While there are numerous benefits to the tokenization of physical assets on the blockchain, there are certain problems associated with the same that are addressed by Art Garde. These problems stem primarily from the need for creating a link between the physical asset and its digital twin to ensure that the integrity and identity of either asset is not compromised. Art Garde establishes a forward-looking approach and model that can be used to secure any high value physical assets from luxury goods and watches to real estate.
