Figures d'analogies verbo-gestuelles et raisonnement collectif

Abstract : In this chapter, we present an original study which questions the contribution of speech+gesture bimodal analogy to collective reasoning during CPI activity at school. We report on a qualitative micro-analysis based on audiovisual data collected in a primary school and two secondary schools in France. Analysis focuses on three typical sequences extracted from the corpus, and shows how analogy expressed in a bimodal way is repeated and enriched during the exchanges and through the verbal and gestural modalities. The adult who is chairing the discussion is found to play a key role in circulating the metaphors expressed by the discussants. All in all, our observations suggest that bimodal analogy is a reflexive resource that contributes to the enrichment of the collective activity of conceptualization.
