Légendes et dénonciation dans les gravures et les dessins de Goya

Abstract : This article studies how the captions contribute to express denunciation in Goya’s prints and drawings. It looks at two main aspects . Firstly, it focuses on the diversity of modes of enunciation Goya uses in his captions, from impersonal and impartial discourse to compassionate or invective address, and to monologue . Secondly, it analyzes the vocabulary and the syntax of denunciation: here the study stresses its richness and subtlety while showing Goya’s frequent appeals to the spectator-reader’s complicity, and his will to suggest the inability to speak about horror.
