Dématérialisation du roman

Beginning with a reflection on the "material" of fiction, this article first examines the reasons why the novel is criticized in the early twentieth century (exhaustion of the genre, criticism of realism, inadequacy with the time, rejection of generic classifications ...). It then analyzes the "dematerialization" of the novel (dislocation of space and time, of history, characters, function of the narrator, ...), then considering this deconstruction of gender as the search for a new narrative form: it specifies certain features of this "pure novel" (fact preferred to action and assembling to the plot, therefore heterogeneity). So it is assumed that, unless a rejection of the novel, the historical avant-gardes have tried to propose a new theory of narrative, which may lead to an aporia, but resonates today with the hypermedia theories.
Partant d'une réflexion sur la " matière " romanesque, cet article examine d'abord les raisons pour lesquelles le roman est mis en cause dans les premières années du XXe siècle (usure du genre, critique des réalismes, inadéquation avec l'époque, rejet des classifications génériques...). Il analyse ensuite le travail de " dématérialisation " que les avant-gardes font subir au matériel romanesque (dislocation du cadre spatio-temporel, de l'histoire, de la construction des personnage et de la fonction du narrateur, accélération et brièveté, etc.), puis envisage cette déconstruction du genre comme la recherche de nouvelles formes narratives : il précise certaines caractéristiques de ce " roman pur " (le fait préféré à l'action et le montage à l'intrigue, d'où l'hétérogénéité générique et matérique du roman avant-gardiste). Il fait ainsi l'hypothèse que, moins qu'un rejet ou un abandon du roman, les avant-gardes historiques ont tenté de proposer une nouvelle théorie du genre narratif, qui conduit peut-être à une aporie, mais résonne aujourd'hui dans les théories des hypermédia.
